The MBA in Sustainable Business: What’s the ROI?
Traditional MBA seekers often think about an MBA in terms of return on investment (ROI). What will my earning power be after I graduate versus how much will it cost me?
That may be fine for a normal MBA, but the return on an MBA from us is more difficult to measure. Just like there’s not a single bottom line in accounting there’s not a single bottom line in terms of what our MBA can do for you.
How do you put a value on opening doors to a new career that aligns with your values?
How do you put a value on being happier in your job because you’re working to make business more responsible and just?
Our point? The MBA in Sustainable Business is as much an investment in your happiness as it is in future salary.
“How in the world am I going to pay for all of this?”
Wherever you go, an MBA is expensive. When you add up tuition, fees, room and board and all of the corollary expenses from travel to books, you can expect to pay over $50,000 for your MBA. That’s a serious investment no matter how you look at it.
The good news is that almost all of the students (that we know of) who really want an education here figure out a way to make it happen. At a time when many graduate programs offer little institutional aid or none at all, BGI offers a comprehensive institutional aid program.
About BGI’s institutional aid program
BGI offers the following types of financial aid to those who qualify for the 2008 - 2009 school year:
Institutional Grants: 100% need-based gifts that do not have to be repaid.
- Circle Grants
- Alumni Grants
- Travel Grants
Institutional Scholarships: MBA students only—Merit-based or merit- and need-based gifts that do not have to be repaid.
- Bamburg Scholarships for Academic Excellence
- Rowledge Scholarships for Leadership and Innovation
- Capa-ColorsNW Diversity Scholarships
- Pinchot Diversity Scholarships
Loans—Must be repaid.
- Sallie Mae Career Training Loans: MBA and Certificate students
- BGI Hardship Loans: MBA students only
For the 2008-2009 academic year we anticipate an average total award size of over $6,000 and a range from approximately $400 to over $16,000. The total amount of institutional funds awarded is expected to be $450,000 to $550,000 depending on the size, financial need and merit of the student body.
Every aid recipient should expect to apply for and accept some alternative loans from Sallie Mae or another lender. Grants and/or scholarships covering all demonstrated financial need are extremely rare.
Before applying for a grant or scholarship, we hope you will pause to think through other sources of aid and/or loans aside from those we might be able to provide. Directing institutional aid to those who require it the most is important to all of us.
